Ever wonder what’s actually going through an engineer’s head while they’re mixing? This session lets you see and hear it in real time. Gene will mix a multitrack he’s never heard, on a console he hasn’t programmed, in a room he doesn’t know, narrating every decision along the way. You’ll get direct access to the thought process behind each move as the mix builds from an empty session to a finished product. Watch real-time decision-making unfold as we explore EQ choices, compression, and the “why” behind every move. This is mixing without a safety net.
You’re already mentoring someone—you just might not know it. Someone is watching how you handle pressure, how you speak about leadership, how you serve when no one’s looking. The question isn’t whether you’re transferring knowledge; it’s what kind of knowledge you’re transferring. This session explores the responsibility of intentionally mentoring one audio engineer on a deep level—not just teaching them to mix, but shaping how they relate to the church, handle conflict, and view their calling.
In this session, we will cover concepts that apply to a FOH broadcast mix, studio broadcast room, or mixing in the box. We’ll explore the art of the mix, from LUFS and parallel compression to bussing and techniques that help your mix translate well across platforms. Whether you’re part of a small church or a large production team, this class will help you better understand the world of broadcast audio.
Creating a consistent sound week to week can be challenging, especially with different engineers mixing or changes on stage. This session will walk through practical ways to maintain consistency, no matter who’s at the console. We’ll explore key strategies like building a show file that works for everyone, training engineers to use that template and stay “in the sandbox,” and preparing your stage consistently each week. You’ll walk away with repeatable systems that help your team deliver a reliable, high-quality mix from week to week.

This season, we’ll send short, soul-filling encouragements to help you pause, breathe, and refocus on the One this is all about. You’re doing holy work, but you’re not meant to do it on empty. Let this be your reminder to slow down and spend a few quiet moments with Jesus. You need it—and you deserve it.
